Catching a Silver perch on a Crown Seal Lure

Silver perch image - NSW DPI websiteSilver perch are a medium to large freshwater (>8kg, 2kg - common) fish found in similar habitats to Murray cod and Golden perch.  They like lowland, turbid and slow flowing rivers and are well stocked in a number of dams and  love to hang out around submerged timber and other snags.  Silver perch like to roam the waters in gangs and are omnivores meaning they like a good wholesome meal  of meat and 3 veg.

Silver perch are an excellent fighting fish and are a popular target for many anglers.  The smaller fish (below 1.5kg) are a delicious table fish whereas their parents aren't as tasty but offer great sport and should be released back to the water unharmed to pop out more fish for our future generations to enjoy.

The Crown Seal Lure is a terrific lure for targeting Silver perch.  Cast amongst snags and let the lure sink a little before retrieving.  Around dusk and dawn they are often found feeding off the surface so a good time to flick around a lure.  Look for recently fallen trees and bushes along the bank as shrimp just love the fresh vegetation and cover.  Silver perch will be waiting on the outer ready to knock off any free spirited shrimp so this is the perfect spot to cast a Crownie.
