Personalising Your Crown Seal LurePersonalising your Crown Seal Lure, Steps 1 to 5

The Crown Seal Lure is designed to allow you to personalise your own lure by replacing the bottle cap with your favourite beverage or favourite coloured bottle cap.

It is a simple process that will take you less than a minute to do the change over.

Step 1. Study how the original bottle cap is squeezed over the Crown Seal Lure.

Step 2. Take the bottle cap off your Crown Seal Lure.

Step 3. Open your drink and savour the sound of the bottle cap as it twists off the top of your drink, take a second to look at the scenery and have a long sip.

Step 4. Go on, have another sip. You've probably earned it.

Step 5. Squeeze the bottle cap in half with your fingers.  Make sure the skirt  of the bottle cap is pinched at either end with a pair of needle-nose pliers so that when the bottle cap is closed over the brass tube, the folded skirt of the cap fits snugly over the brass body.  If you don't get it right the first time, it's a good excuse to have another drink.

Fishing with the Crown Seal Lure

The Crown Seal Lure will attract a wide variety of fish and anglers alike.  We've listed some of the key fish species that enjoy a Crownie trolled or casted.

Series No. 1 - 'Cocktail Series'

Rainbow & Brown trout, Salmon, Australian bass, Golden perch, Silver perch, Murray cod, Redfin...

Series No. 2 - 'Heavy Metal'

Australian Salmon, Taylor, Barramundi, Trevally, Estuary perch...

If trolling for those deeper dwelling species, try attaching a trolling sinker between the main line and the leader to the Crown Seal Lure.

You'll also find the Crown Seal Lure is terrific at avoiding snags!  Due to the large Colorado blade spinning around the crown seal/bottle cap, the lure in most circumstances will simply bounce over snags.

Line Twist

The Crown Seal Lure is a spinning lure, therefore under some circumstances it is prone to causing line twist, just like many other lures on the market.

Line twist is a wretched curse for trolling anglers in particular, and can easily be prevented with a few precautions.

  • Make sure you troll slowly or if casting from the bank retrieve the Crown Seal Lure slowly. Trolling or retrieving too fast is often the main culprit for line twist.
  • Try using a 1 metre leader with a Crane/Ball-bearing swivel attached to the main line and/or use a good quality snap swivel to attach your Crown Seal Lure directly to the main line or to your leader.
  • Use small swivels! Do not use large swivels.
  • Try attaching a plastic or lead keel between the main line and the leader.
  • Consider using braided line or a superline which doesn't twist like monofilament lines.
